Having a portrait painted is one of the most pleasing experiences in life. It is the time-honored labor of an artist to move paint and canvas into the figurative creation of a memory - a memory that will be seen and felt by you and your family for generations.  ~ AMB
Once the subject is agreed upon, the artist talks to the client to get an idea of the size and pose for the artwork.  She listens and answers any questions, and arranges to meet and sketch and photograph the subject. When portraits are to be done from the client’s own photos (as in posthumous or specific event works) Bailey enjoys a personal chat with the client about the subject and their wit, wisdom and physical traits.  Finding her common interest with the subject helps her establish that intimate “realness” she portrays in her work.
Next, working for the most artistically pleasing angles and poses, Bailey edits the sketches and source photos and creates a charcoal or sepia sketch of the image.  Often these drawings are given to the client, and become “Grandparent Gifts.”  Next, Bailey begins the painting in oil on finest Belgian linen, canvas or wood panel. The client is completely welcome to be in touch with the progress of the work throughout, or may choose to wait and be presented with the image once it's done. Either way, the artist confirms the client’s absolute satisfaction with the painting before considering it finished.  Delivery in person is always a pleasure for the artist, or, with client's approval, paintings may be shipped.
